Central Square

Green Shoots Return to City Development

Positive signs of regeneration are emerging despite the current economic climate.  Chesterfield company Bolsterstone are looking to commence work on the £12million city centre office scheme Central Square in Cathedral Road.  The scheme will offer 5 floors of Grade A office space and is one of seven office developments with planning permission in the city.

John Cadwallader , chief executive of Derby Cityscape, said: "It is positive news.  I think the plan is very much that they are doing the early site preparation work and that there will be the aim to start construction in March or April.  There are some strong inquiries about the prospects of securing tenants. This will maintain the momentum of the regeneration of the city centre."

Derby's Olympic Bid

A delegation from Derby visited London's Olympic park to see how the city and county may benefit from the 2012 Olympics.  The delegation was led by Peter Richardson, Chairman of Championing Derbyshire, a group set to promote local links with the games.  They witnessed Europe's largest construction site, which includes an impressive new stadium.  Peter was keen to stress the need for local companies to compete for the business opportunities 2012 offers.
