Derby has a strong heritage of creativity and innovation, and continues to be at the forefront of transport developments, particularly in the rail and aerospace industries.
Derby is world HQ to Rolls-Royce civil aerospace. It is here that the engines that power Boeing and Airbus’ aircrafts are made. Rolls-Royce also specialise in Nuclear R&D meaning Derby has the highest cluster of nuclear expertise in the UK.
The city is home to Europe’s largest cluster of rail technology consultancies, and the last city in the UK to manufacture trains in the form of company Bombardier.
Derby is also home to Toyota Manufacturing UK, who operate in one of the greenest plants in the world, and today, exporting cars to Japan.
Finally, Derby is home to the flourishing sectors of the Creative and Software and IT sectors. As well as being home to hundreds of software companies, the creative sector in Derby employs over 7,000 people and was the birth place of the computer game character Lara Croft.
