Derby is home to some of the top global companies in the UK. Rolls-Royce aerospace, marine and nuclear are all headquartered here, as are the UK bases for Bombardier and Toyota.

The ONS has identified Derby as the only city outside of the south-east with GVA productivity above the national average.

Derby is England’s fastest growing city for wealth creation in growth by GVA. As well as having the highest average city salary outside London for a city, Derby also has the highest visible exports per capita.

As well as having a world leading aerospace presence in the city, Derby is also home to several hundred specialist rail and car manufacturers.

Derby is home to the largest concentration of rail related technology companies in Europe with around 200 based in the city. Derby also has vibrant software and creative sectors which have flourished in the city, working with clients nationally and globally.

Key Employers

With their world HQ in Derby, Rolls-Royce are one of Derby’s main employers along with global rail company Bombardier and car manufacturer Toyota.

One of Derby’s largest inward investments announced in 2011, will see contact centre HEROtsc become a key employer in the city. Already employing 600 staff at their Pride Park site, the company are set to dramatically expand over the next few years.
