Retail spend in Derby surpassed £700m in 2010, beating cities such as Bath and Cambridge in the process. As well as having the second highest average wage in the UK outside of London, Derby’s potential market size has increased by 65% in two years to include the 2.1m people who live within an hour of the city.
Westfield Derby, rated as one of the best shopping centres in the UK, attracts over 25 million shoppers every year. Derby also benefits from two successful Business Improvement Districts in the form of the Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter.
Derby also has emerging opportunities in the latest riverside development. Already containing the Riverlights complex which is home to a bus station, two hotels and a £9m casino, the riverside is an opportunity for retailers to expand on this revitalised part of the city.
